Jamie Carragher has labelled the handball rule a "disgrace" and "an absolute joke" after late penalty controversy in the 1-1 draw between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
Spurs dominated the game and were leading 1-0 going into stoppage time when a penalty was awarded after a VAR check for a potential handball by Eric Dier.An Andy Carroll header hit Dier on the arm and, under the new handball rules, a spot kick was awarded to the Magpies after referee Peter Bankes took a look at the incident on the pitchside monitor.Callum Wilson duly converted the penalty to rescue a point for Newcastle in the 94th minute.Despite Dier being unable to do much to avoid the ball hitting his arm, the rules mean Bankes had no choice but to award the spot.
