He describes it as a 'green lung' among the many high rises of the city centre. It's a four-acre turfed gap in the streetscape, but for residents like Andy Start, the area of land known locally as New Islington Green has been a place of salvation during lockdown.
Off Pollard Street, next to New Islington tram spot, it's breathing space for residents living in the small apartments clustered around it, one of the precious few green spaces in Manchester city centre.
So, residents are watching with a cautious eye as plans are in motion to introduce a new scheme, MXM, which would bring an office campus to the land.
General Projects was chosen as the developer for the scheme, which is part of the Eastlands Regeneration Framework, last year.
