The Army has fired a soldier who failed fitness tests after weighing in at more than 30 stone. The obese squaddie was unable to go on operations because he could not squeeze into his body armour. He is one of around 25 “morbidly obese” members of the armed forces who have had to leave on medical grounds. The six heaviest together weighed more than a ton.

Details were released by the Ministry of Defence through a Freedom of Information request. One source said last night: “You can’t have a 30-stone soldier in the Army.“He will be a liability to himself and his colleagues.“All of these individuals joined the Army as young, healthy, athletic recruits but they put on huge amounts of weight while serving."Part of the problem is that while the armed forces serve healthy meals, they also serve cooked breakfasts every day – and chips with lunch and dinner.

There is also a problem with boozing.”The MoD also revealed that more than 60,000 members of the armed forces have been classed as overweight.Hundreds have been issued with diet pills and some even had liposuction.
