Premier League ref 'couldn't eat for days' after he missed one of worst-ever tackles
Premier League referee has revealed that he 'couldn't eat for three days' after realising he had missed one of the worst-ever tackles in league history. It's impossible for referee's to catch every incident that occurs on a football pitch, and now VAR has been introduced to make their lived a whole lot easier. It's hard to imagine that whatever decision was, or wasn't made in the Premier League less than five years ago would stand without any further intervention, but former referee Mark Halsey managed to miss one of the worst-ever tackles made in the top-flight.Halsey was so ashamed of his error that he admitted it was difficult to 'eat for days' after seeing a replay after the match.Back in 2013, Wigan faced Newcastle at the DW Stadium, and Scotland international Callum McManaman delivered a brutal knee-high challenge on Magpies star Massadio Haidara. McManaman escaped any punishment for his tackle despite how dangerous it was, and Halsey has recalled his version of events, and admitted that upon seeing a replay of the tackle, he felt 'sick to his stomach'.Mark Halsey, speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at the launch of its 5-A-Side bet on Chelsea v Liverpool, said: "Just as the challenge went in, a Newcastle player ran straight in front of me, so I'm basically looking at a brick wall.
