Podcaster Georgie Crawford has opened up about the heartbreaking challenges of surrogacy and called for Ireland to change its strict laws to create a ‘path to parenthood’ for surrogate mothers.
In an emotional Instagram post, the former radio host shared a photo of the arrival of her first baby Pia and wrote: ‘I never imagined when I was holding my first baby in my arms in this photo that I wouldn’t be classified as the mother of my second.’ Georgie and her husband Jamie opted for a surrogacy birth for their second child after the 36-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer and placed on tamoxifen medication, which reduces the chance of cancer recurring.
