my anxiety started – it was when our washing machine caught fire. It was 1978 and I was just three years old. The Army was sent to put out the flames because the fire brigade was on strike.

Suddenly, our house – and my safe little world – was surrounded by military jeeps and hosepipes, and I was terrified. It was the first time that I’d felt suddenly out of control and it was the moment my life as a worrier began.From then on I was always referred to as the timid one in our family, but being an anxious kid didn’t stop me from doing what I wanted to do.
