Speaking to the Liverpool ECHO, Mr Mason described the scene and recounted how a group of passersby used a ladder and formed a human chain to rescue a baby from the burning building.The lads were flagged down by a panicked woman who was shouting for help in the middle of the road.They jumped from their van and ran towards the building to help.Arriving at the scene, the cable engineers spotted Italian couple Michele Corrias, 34, and Martina Scampini, 35, waving for help from a second-floor window.The rescuers grabbed a nearby ladder and helped the couple to safety – before spotting a second family trapped at a third-floor window.The family were trapped inside by scaffolding and a safety catch that prevented the windows from fully.
