Greater Manchester Police have condemned a serving officer who has been jailed after trying to rape a woman in a "deplorable" violent sex attack.
Married father-of-two Ernesto Ceraldi, 44, inflicted "appalling violence" on his victim in her own home after they met in a pub in Edenfield near Bury whilst he was off-duty one Friday night in April.
He left her bloodied and bruised after repeatedly punching and throttling her as he tried to force her to perform a sex act on him in the "terrifying" assault during which the victim, who was in her 40s, said she thought she was going to die. READ MORE: GMP constable appears in court charged with two assaults, one involving a toddler Ceraldi who the court heard had consumed a "large quantity" of alcohol was eventually arrested whilst asleep naked on the woman's sofa with his leg in the arm of a jacket which prosecutors said he "obviously thought was a pair of trousers." Prior to the incident, Ceraldi, at the time a tactical dog handler at GMP with 21 years experience as an officer, was a man with of "exemplary good character" and had no previous convictions.
He received commendations for his actions whilst on duty at the 2008 UEFA Cup final in Manchester, which was marred by fan violence, and in Salford during the 2011 summer riots, the court heard.
