Harry was educated at Wetherby School, Ludgrove School, and Eton College. He spent parts of his gap year in Australia and Lesotho. He then underwent officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a cornet (second lieutenant) into the Blues and Royals, serving temporarily with his brother Prince William, and he completed his training as a troop leader. In 2007–08, he served for over ten weeks in Helmand, Afghanistan, but was pulled out after an Australian magazine revealed his presence there. He returned to Afghanistan for a 20-week deployment in 2012–13 with the Army Air Corps. He left the army in June 2015.

Prince Harry has paid tribute to his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II in light of her death. Her Majesty passed away last week, Thursday 8 September, aged 96.

Speaking about his "Granny", the Duke of Sussex said: "Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings - from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren. "I cherish these times shared with you, and the many other special moments in between.

You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over. And as it comes to first meetings, we now honour my father in his new role as King Charles III." He went on: "Thank you for your commitment to service.Thank you for your sound advice.Thank you for your infectious smile. "We, too, smile knowing that you and grandpa are reunited now, and both together in peace." Harry also quoted what his grandmother said following the death of her husband Prince Philip, who died aged 99 in April 2021.The Duke went on: "Let us echo the words she spoke after the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, words which can bring comfort to all of us now: 'Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings.'"
