Harrowing reasons children in coronavirus lockdown have called Childline for help

Children's helpline Childline has seen thousands of young people reach out with their harrowing struggles during the coronavirus lockdown.

From cases of domestic and emotional abuse to children as young as eight turning to self-harm to cope with the pressures of being trapped at home - call handlers have dealt with some heartbreaking calls.

Other reasons many children reached out for help included feeling isolated from their friends, teachers and outside support networks.

Many have turned to the helpline as their only form of outside contact from their unhappy homes. There has also been an increase in the amount of children aged under 11 contacting counsellors for mental health support, reports the Liverpool Echo.
