Coronavirus infections are now "out of control" in Liverpool and the only to stop them is with a short-term full lockdown "circuit breaker", according to the city’s mayor.
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson is urging people in the city to strictly follow hygiene and social distancing rules, as Covid-19 infection rates continue to surge, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Latest figures show that there were 1306 positive Covid-19 cases in the most recent 7-day period in Liverpool — an increase from 577 a week before.
