Kimmel introduced the 72nd annual Emmys as the "pandemmys" and briefly used canned applause and old video footage of a star-studded audience to indicate that the show was proceeding as normal, thanking the audience for "risking everything" to be there before wondering why the event was taking place amid such dire circumstances.
