Dr Hilary Jones urged experts and the public to be "cautious" before relying on herd immunity in a bid to stop coronavirus.
It was reported this week that hundreds of scientists and medical experts were calling for a new herd immunity strategy, in a bid to make the public resistant to Covid-19.
The policy could include allowing the young and the fit to live normally, without social distancing measures and a lockdown.
Meanwhile, the elderly and those at high risk would be "protected" by encouraging them to continue to isolate and follow strict guidelines.
