German towns have been forced to bring back stricter coronavirus lockdown measures after a spike in infections. Some states had eased restrictions on April 20 however each of the 16 states agreed to re-impose rules if the number of cases hit 50 per 100,000.

Although the country has done well against the virus compared to other nations, some areas have had a resurgence. In North Rhine-Westphalia, 150 workers out of 1,200 tested positive for the potentially deadly bug at a slaughterhouse in Coesfeld, reports Mirror Online.

It brought the state's infection rate to 61 per 100,000 which means other planned moves to ease restrictions now cannot go ahead.
