Sir Alex Ferguson “couldn’t deal with” his old adversary Arsene Wenger, according to former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon. Ferguson battled against Wenger for a great number of years during their times in charge of Manchester United and Arsenal, with the two sides regularly fighting it out for the Premier League title.
Wenger’s arrival in North London saw the Gunners emerge as United’s main rivals for many years, with Arsenal breaking up what was a dominant decade for Ferguson’s side.
After Wenger’s appointment in 1996, United would win five of the following eight titles up for grabs, with Arsenal claiming three, including their unbeaten season during the 2003/04 campaign.
