Former Arsenal duo Alex Song and Johan Djourou are among nine players to have been sacked by Swiss outfit Sion over a contract dispute.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Sion attempted to take drastic steps as they looked to sort their finances. The entire squad was reportedly contacted via WhatsApp by president Christian Constantin on Tuesday with the club chief asking players to take a ‘technical unemployment’.

It was a deal that would have seen the players receive around 9600 Swiss francs (£8,300) in a bid to keep the club afloat. However, with plenty of players reportedly refusing or failing to reply, nine stars were let go including former Gunners duo Song and Djourou.
