Flu jab could cut Alzheimer's risk by almost a fifth, disease experts find

University of Texas academic Albert Amran said: “Our study suggests that regular use of a very accessible and relatively cheap intervention — the flu shot — may significantly reduce risk of Alzheimer’s dementia.” Speaking at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Chicago, he admitted that more research is needed.

Alzheimer’s Research UK said the study was “intriguing”. A spokesman was keen to point out that the results do not indicate that Alzheimer's is caused by the common flu.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh University found that reading books or doing puzzles could keep the disease at bay. People with lifelong thinking and memory skills are thought to develop a kind of buffer against changes in the brain. .
