East Lothian on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services raced to the "serious" crash on the A198 towards Tranent after a a black Cherokee Jeep Sport, travelling northbound, struck a young boy.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh for treatment to serious leg injuries following the incident just after 2pm.
Medical staff describe his condition as stable.Police are urgently appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
