A 15-year-old boy who tragically drowned in the River tees has been named and pictured, as he is hailed as a 'hero' Anas El-Rafai, of Darlington, reportedly drowned while saving his younger brother who had gotten into difficulty in a river.
Police named the youngster today, after his body was recovered near the Broken Scar area of the River Tees in Darlington at midnight last night.
Emergency services had responded to a missing person report at around 5pm on Monday. Locals say the teenager had been trying to save his brother from danger when he was swept away.
Another youngster, a friend of the tragic teen, was also reportedly in the water trying to help save the 15-year-old. Formal identification was carried out this afternoon.
