Glasgow is believed to have been caused by somebody carelessly throwing away a cigarette. Fire crews were called to the scene of a small blaze after the alarm was raised at the Govan campus around 9.20am on Wednesday September 16.

Footage online showed patients and staff outside the main building having been evacuated. Thankfully nobody was injured in the incident.

Now NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have confirmed the blaze has been put out and that safety checks are being carried out before people are let back into the building.

A spokesperson said: “This morning at around 9:20am our security teams provided an immediate response to a fire alarm at the QEUH and extinguished a small fire outside of the main building."The fire was accidental.
