Fines increased for fly-tipping and littering as cases soar in lockdown

The town hall has raised its on-the-spot fixed penalty notices for fly-tipping from £200 to £400. Littering pentalties have gone up from £100 to £150.

A council spokesperson said: “Litterers and fly-tippers have also been warned that the council’s environmental improvement team is determined to catch those breaking the law and is working closely with colleagues in the council’s CCTV control room to identify offenders.” Officers will issue on-the-spot fines to people caught dropping litter, including cigarette butts and chewing gum.
