McDonald's customers ordering at counters will reportedly have to wear masks when placing counter orders or risk a £100 fine.
Masks are to be made mandatory in takeaways and sandwich shops under laws introduced on Thursday, the Telegraph reports. Premises with table service are said to be exempt from the new rules, though purchasing food from a counter and sitting down to eat inside is banned, according to a government source.
McDonald’s customers, for example, would have to be masked while ordering at the counter, or use table service. The government has not yet confirmed if the new rules, which take effect in supermarkets and shops on Friday, will also apply to takeaways.
