Emily Maitlis was left red-faced during last night's segment of BBC Newsnight. The journalist was presenting Tuesday's show when she was forced to backtrack after making an awkward blunder live on air.

Emily, 50, was interviewing former health secretary Alan Johnson when she stumbled upon her words. She left viewers giggling at their screens after introducing Alan from "hell" instead of Hull in the hilarious gaffe. "The former health secretary Alan Johnson joins us down the line from hell," she announced before realising what she had said.

Emily, who had to quickly backtrack her words, continued, "From Hull," adding: "I'm never gonna recover from that now, am I?" Meanwhile, viewers at home were in hysterics at Emily's funny mishap.
