and Salford, just after 12:30pm this afternoon. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said they received a call at 12:41pm to "reports of a person in the water off a bridge." "One crew attended from Salford Fire station" a spokesman said."However on arrival police were already on the scene and had the matter in hand." The Manchester Evening News understands the alert was sparked after he was spotted suspended from the bridge on abseiling ropes.
Eyewitnesses said officers could be seen talking to the man on the big red bridge which overlooks the Manchester Ship Canal close to Old Trafford football ground and Victoria Warehouse.
