Manchester United hero Darren Fletcher has recalled the time his mother told Sir Alex Ferguson never to call the house again.
Fletcher was training with both the Red Devils and Newcastle as a youngster with both eager to sign the midfielder. He eventually opted for a move to Old Trafford with Fletcher going on to win five Premier League titles and the Champions League with United.
Though it was only due to the persistence of former United boss Ferguson that saw Fletcher join, even if his mother wasn’t best pleased with the legendary manager. "Newcastle were going toe-to-toe with Manchester United at the time for the Premier League," Fletcher said on the Footy Talks podcast. "They were arguably the second biggest club in England at the time.
