The number of people with Covid not in hospitals in England has fallen below 100,000 for the first time since September. Around one in 610 people had Covid-19 in the week to April 16, according to the Office for National Statistics.
That is down from one in 480 the previous week, and means that an estimated 90,000 people within the community population in England caught the coronavirus.
This is the first time it has dropped below 100,000 since the week to September 10 2020, when the estimate stood at 59,800, the equivalent of around one in 900 people.
The percentage of people testing positive for Covid-19 is estimated to have decreased in North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, East Midlands and London, the ONS said.
