link.Conservative group leader Meghan Gallacher, who seconded the successful joint motion, said: “We were pleased to work alongside opposition councillors to scrap these throughout North Lanarkshire.“Both the Conservatives and the SNP agreed that parking charges would have a devastating impact on our town centres and communities.“This shows the strength of collegiate working between opposition groups to ensure the right decisions are made for the communities we represent.”Parking charges had first been agreed in January on the casting vote of committee chair Jim Logue, the council leader, after an 11-11 tie in the final vote; even though a combined majority of SNP and Conservative members had opposed the plan but split their votes across.
