Scenes of hundreds of people applauding NHS workers on Westminster Bridge have sparked outrage again after people continued to ignore social distancing rules.

Photos of the Clap for Carers salute show well-wishers standing less than two metres (6.5ft) apart on the bridge over the River Thames in central London.

Twitter users hit out at those who continued to defy measures aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 and protecting the NHS.

It came a week after Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick was criticised for taking part in a salute where people stood too close to each other.
