Millions join 'clap for carers' as Britain applauds NHS heroes in coronavirus battle

Millions of Brits united to 'clap for carers' once again tonight as they paid tribute to NHS workers battling the coronavirus pandemic.

Whether it was applauding on their doorstep or balcony, the country grinded to a halt at 8pm to take a moment to thank nurses, doctors and other health workers who are tirelessly tackling the Covid-19 outbreak.

It was the fourth time in as many weeks Britain thanked our NHS heroes. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted a video in which boats could be seen with blue lights on along the River Thames.

He said: "Best moment of the week. To everyone working flat out on the frontline in the fight against COVID19: thank you!" Fireworks and cheers could also be heard.
