Chancellor Rishi Sunak to announce furlough scheme changes today

The Chancellor is set to outline the changes to the government's furlough scheme - a few weeks after extending it until October.

Employers are expected to be told they will need to contribute to their furloughed staffs' salaries from August after the government admitted the scheme cannot run "indefinitely".

Rishi Sunak will announce the changes during the government's daily press conference later today (Friday). The coronavirus job retention scheme has so far covered the wages of 8.4 million staff unable to work during lockdown at a cost of around £15 billion.
