Dr Moore-Gilbert, is a Cambridge-educated academic who was most recently a lecturer in Islamic Studies at Melbourne University.
She was taken into custody at Tehran airport in 2018 as she tried to leave following a conference.She had previously been held in Tehran's Evin prison, having reportedly been given a 10-year sentence.
She has spent almost two years sleeping on the floor of a cell, as well as being in solitary and hunger strikes according to a friend.She had previously published work on the 2011 Arab uprisings and on authoritarian governments.The Centre for Supporters of Human Rights say Ms Moore-Gilbert has.
