Unions today urged Boris Johnson to hand British firms a £1.5billion deal to build Royal Navy support ships. The Prime Minister used his Conservative Party virtual conference speech to back the British industry.
Addressing activists, he pledged “a concerted national shipbuilding strategy that will bring jobs to every part of the UK, especially in Scotland”.
Unions hope he will follow-up the speech by awarding a British consortium the contract to build three Fleet Solid Support ships, securing at least 2,500 skilled, well-paid jobs.
