Boris Johnson joked with Tory MPs that the rule of six, introduced to curb the spread of Covid-19, helps people avoid their in-laws, it has been reported this evening.

He is said to have made the comments during a private Zoom meeting of Conservative politicians this evening. Three people familiar with the Prime Minister's comments told Bloomberg he made multiple jokes that landed badly with his audience.

The call was aimed at winning support for the new coronavirus restrictions that were announced yesterday. According to Bloomberg, Mr Johnson also told former Prime Minister Theresa May that business people could not attend SAGE meetings as they are only aimed at scientists.
