Labour are calling on Tory MPs to defy Boris Johnson and back a "fair deal" for communities facing Tier 3 restrictions. Keir Stamer has tabled the crunch vote on Wednesday to try and force the Government to reconsider the amount of support on offer to areas suffering serious coronavirus outbreaks.
It comes after Boris Johnson broke off talks with leaders in Greater Manchester and plunged the region into lockdown. Greater Manchester will move to the highest tier of coronavirus restrictions from Friday.
Boris Johnson said "not to act now" would put the lives of Manchester's residents "at risk". In a furious speech, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy said he had not been offered enough to "protect the poorest people in our communities".
