Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Boris Johnson puts ex-Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre in charge of Ofcom

Boris Johnson has appointed two Brexit-backing critics of the BBC to key roles in the media. The Prime Minister has hired Paul Dacre, the former editor of the Daily Mail, as chairman of media regulator Ofcom, and he has asked Charles Moore, the former editor of the Daily Telegraph, to become the chairman of the BBC, The Times has reported.

The newspaper said Mr Dacre had drinks with Mr Johnson in Downing Street in February, before the coronavirus pandemic occured and is now in talks with No 10 about the Ofcom role.

Mr Dacre will want to crack down on alleged BBC bias and encourage the corporation to downsize so it can focus on its core public service responsibilities.
