He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Boris Johnson 'betraying' voters if he fails to help car industry, says Labour

Labour tonight accused the Tories of “betraying” industrial heartlands which propelled Boris Johnson back to No10 with an 80-seat majority.

An analysis reveals three in four jobs in the struggling car-making industry are in places where the Conservatives made inroads at December's general election, as they seized Labour's 'Red Wall' strongholds.

Labour said the sector was “vital” to livelihoods in the North, Midlands, Yorkshire and Wales. According to the latest Business Register and Employment Survey, 76% of direct employment in the automotive industry is in these areas – accounting for 127,000 workers out of 166,000 in Britain.
