Bizarre moment 'confused' cyclist pedals wrong way into oncoming traffic on motorway

motorway.The bizarre was spotted on a northbound stretch of the M61 motorway, near Kearsley Spur in Bolton just after 12.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 6).Phil Taylor shared the dashcam footage with Manchester Evening News, which shows the cyclist pedalling close to a highway maintenance vehicle on the hard shoulder.READ MORE: New Highway Code means Brits with self-driving cars could watch TV behind wheelThe man, who wears a white long-sleeved top and a blue biker shorts, appears to be carrying a large pannier bag on the back of the bike and a bag over his shoulder.Phil, who was travelling back from Manchester to Bolton, said the cyclist was "clearly putting himself and others in danger" despite the motorway was quiet at the time.He added: "I had pulled off onto the slip road from the East Lancashire Road."I was heading northbound and came around a corner and there he was."There was a National Highways vehicle reversing as the cyclist approached him.

He was peddling at the time and was wearing a helmet."It was just bizarre and dangerous. The bike appeared to be heavily-loaded as if he was heading somewhere.

I reckon Highways England were tipped off by a camera and went out to intercept him."According to the Highway Codes, motorways must not be used by pedestrians, holders of provisional motorcycle licences, riders of motorcycles under 50cc - or cyclists.
