The French striker may even already be on the point of signing for Diego Simeone’s side and simply awaiting confirmation of attacking rival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal contract extension.
Lacazette nearly switched to Atletico in 2017 – but the deal came crashing down at the last minute when the club was hit with a transfer ban for breaching FIFA rules on recruiting young players.
The ex-Lyon star ended up joining the Gunners instead, though he has failed to nail down a regular spot under any of the three different managers he has worked with at the Emirates Stadium.
