Lennon and McCartney read a newspaper article about '4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire' and knocked out one of the most famous songs of all time.

Time will tell if the Heywood Road sinkhole in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, has the same impact on popular culture. But when it first opened up back in July it was pretty much the only topic of conversation round these parts.
