Coronavirus has brought misery to families, driven many firms to the wall, seen unemployment surge, and pushed UK Government debt to a record high.
Yet life has never been better for US giants Apple, Amazon, Facebook and Google parent company Alphabet. Amazon highlighted the bonanza this week by revealing it raked in £92billion of sales in just three months - equivalent to £1billion a day.
It came as billionaire founder Jeff Bezos made the shock announcement he was stepping down after 27 years - having seen his eye-watering fortune rocket by more than £50billion in the pandemic.
