Atletico Madrid won’t be relishing renewing acquaintances with Cristiano Ronaldo tonight (Wednesday evening). The Manchester United superstar has proven to be the chief tormentor of Diego Simeone’s side over the years, with the Portuguese seemingly reserving some of his best performances for games against the current Spanish champions.
And they’ll be particularly sick of the sight of him in the Champions League; between the 2013/14 and 2018/19 seasons, each time Atletico made it to the knockout stages of the competition, they were knocked out by a side containing Ronaldo.
Ahead of tonight's meeting at the Metropolitano, some of Atletico’s players have been trying to play down the significance of coming up against the 37-year-old.
