Mexico was 'swallowed' by a sinkhole created by a collapsing 'narcotunnel', dug by a cartel, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 4am as the man slept on a couch in the Juntas de Humaya in Culiacan, in the Sinaloa region.Authorities reported that the young man suffered injuries and bruises to different parts of his body when he fell to a depth of between two-and-a-half and three metres.According to reports, a loud rumble surprised the residents of the house, and they quickly turned on the lights of the house to see what was happening. To their surprise that, when looking at the place where the room was located, they found the deep sinkhole with the young man moaning inside it.The neighbours said that the sinkhole was caused by the collapse of one of the many "narcotunnels" in a house located about 50 meters from the site of the accident, through which criminals managed to escape until it was secured during an operation in the area in 2011, and where the army seized several illicit objects stored in black bags.As a result of this accident, which occurred on May 10, Mother's Day in Mexico, a series of complaints came to light from other neighbours, who confirmed that their homes had damage caused by this same problem, including a large mango tree that was "swallowed" by the earth approximately two years ago and which still remains with its roots exposed to the elements at a depth of two-and-a-half to three meters below the surface, and where the 'narcotunnel', built of wood and rotten by the years and humidity, is visible.Other neighbours have stated that they have had problems in the drainage system in their homes, also in the structure of their homes with cracks and in some cases landslides,.
