A man died inside a recycling compactor after it was inadvertently switched on by a colleague, a court has heard. Dale McClelland died at H&A Recycling Limited in Redruth in November 2017.
The recycling plant's safety standards were described by the judge Mr Justice Neil Garnham as "positively Victorian", Cornwall Live reports.
The company pleaded guilty to corporate manslaughter and will be sentenced on Friday at Plymouth Crown Court. Mr McClelland, 23, got inside the machine after it became blocked and a colleague - who was new to the job - then accidentally turned it on.
Neither had received adequate training. The court heard that he would have died almost instantly. "That's the only mercy in this case," the judge said.
