A woman was left blind in one eye after a mosquito flew into her eye and gave her a rare parasite infection. Charlotte Clarkson was diagnosed with Acanthamoeba keratitis after the insect scratched her eye while she was working at a summer camp in Canada.
The dangerous infection is associated with poor contact lens hygiene, such as wearing contacts while swimming or in the shower.
While working the mosquito flew into Charlotte's eye, but she thought nothing more of it, and put in her nocturnal contact lenses that night before bed.
