A centenarian was given a birthday of a lifetime after receiving 10,500 cards and gifts from well-wishers around the world. Lillian Greenway, who had no close surviving family to celebrate her 100th birthday, received the presents from strangers following an online appeal that went viral.
Staff at Heartlands Care and Nursing Home in Yardley, Birmingham, made a Facebook post earlier this month in a bid to get 100 cards to mark her birthday milestone.
They feared that Lillian, who survived two world wars, would have no card to open to on her birthday. The care home was inundated with presents after the appeal went viral and a total of 10,000 cards and 500 gifts have landed on the doorstep They have been sent from as far away as Australia,
