‘SNL’ denies claims that Ryan Reynolds’ Justin Baldoni joke was “his idea”
Saturday Night Live has denied claims that Ryan Reynolds pitched a joke that alluded to the ongoing legal feud between his wife Blake Lively and film-maker Justin Baldoni during SNL50.The anniversary show aired last Sunday (January 16), and saw former show cast members Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host a segment where they took questions from the audience, which was filled with celebrities. As the Deadpool and Wolverine actor stood up to ask a question, they asked: “Ryan! How’s it going?”, to which Reynolds replied: “Great! Why, what have you heard?” Lively was by his side and looked surprised initially, but soon broke into a smile as it was revealed to be part of the joke.Ryan Reynolds reacts to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler bringing attention to him at #SNL50 Anniversary special:“Great, why, what have you heard?” pic.twitter.com/WKYOCko4n6— Pop Crave (@PopCrave) February 17, 2025The joke nodded to the ongoing legal battle between Lively and Baldonim following their collaboration on the 2024 romantic drama It Ends With Us, which recently resulted in a controversial Hollywood Reporter cover, in which the pair are reimagined in a David and Goliath-esque scene. After Reynolds’ joke aired, the show’s long-time cue card holder Wally Feresten – who has worked at the sketch comedy series for 35 years – took to the Fifi, Fev and Nick podcast to shed some light.“He had a different line in rehearsal, and he pitched that to replace it. So, that was his idea to do it,” Feresten claimed, adding: “We wouldn’t want to do anything too controversial unless they were in on it.”However, an SNL spokesperson has since denied Feresten’s claim to The Hollywood Reporter, and noted he is not involved in the show’s creative process.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ again tops box office, ‘Reagan’ biopic exceeds expectations as summer movie season closes
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” one of the defining movies of the summer, ruled the box office on a weekend with quiet openings and low theater attendance as the summer movie season came to an anticlimactic close. For the second weekend in a row, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Marvel’s smash hit that has shattered records and become the best-selling R-rated movie of all time, topped the charts, with other holdovers from the summer following behind. After six weeks in theaters, the film made $15.2 million domestically Friday through Sunday, and it’s expected to cross the domestic $600 million mark following Monday’s Labor Day holiday. The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman superhero flick will be one of only 16 titles to hit that milestone.“Reagan,” a biopic starring Dennis Quaid as the 40th US president, was the only new release competitive with holdover films that opened earlier this summer.Exceeding projections, the first full-length film about President Ronald Reagan earned $7.4 million over the three-day weekend, with an estimated cumulative total of $9.2 million including projections for Monday.Audiences have reacted to the movie positively, giving it an A CinemaScore and a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.Critics have been less receptive, giving it a 19% rating and deeming it rotten on the popular ratings site.
