New 'Plan B' measures to try and curb the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus have been announced by the government.
Boris Johnson announced on Wednesday night that people will be asked to work from home, face coverings will be needed in most public settings and venues will have to require Covid passes.
The restrictions aim to slow down the spread of the new highly transmissible Omicron variant, buying scientists more time to study its severity, and allowing the NHS to vaccinate even more people.
The new strain is “growing much faster” than Delta, the prime minister said, and cases of Omicron could be doubling every two or three days.
