Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.As an influential pipe major, Iain MacDonald helped spread the name of his village around the world.Now, a year after his death, Neilston is honouring the man who taught generations of young pipers and became the area’s unofficial ambassador.Two specially crafted drums have been completed, to be filled with flowers, and will sit alongside a bespoke bench.He died aged 70 last May.A crowdfunding appeal raised £4,400 so he could be properly and publicly remembered.Iain was pipe major of Neilston Pipe Band for 47 years, after being given the role aged just 23.The bass drum and tenor pipe drum will be anchored next to the bench in Kingston Park later this.
