Weather bomb hitting on Sunday with five inches of snow and staggering gale force winds

Brits are bracing themselves with a blast of snow set to fall in a matter of days across some regions as a harsh Arctic plunge makes its way towards the UK.

Ahead of the weekend, temperatures remain relatively calm with gusts of winds taking hold over the final weekday. Temperatures will gradually start to drop as we are set to enter the final weekend of the month.According to WX Charts, flurries of rainfall will stretch across the country on Saturday with temperatures and conditions set to be relatively moderate.On Sunday temperatures will begin to nosedive, as cold sub-zero temperatures will begin to loom in Scotland and northern regions - blitzing these areas with flurries of snow.Up to five inches are expected to settle on the ground in the Scottish Highlands, with wind speeds surpassing 100km/h on Saturday.

WX Charts have also predicted that next Monday (January 31) a centimetre or two will settle across East Anglia with some also falling - but not settling - in the Midlands.Despite the frosty snow remaining relatively far north, a layer of frost and ice will transcend across the rest of the country with southern regions, including London, experiencing chilly temperatures as we enter the new month.Forecaster James Madden has said: "We are expecting to see some changes as we head into the final month of the winter."Cold and snow will encroach from the north during the early part of February, and some of these wintry downpours may reach as far south as central England and the capital." The Met Office's long range forecast for January 31 through to February 9 has predicted a wet weekend before ending the month cloudy and dry.
