October has been a a challenging month so far with the energy price cap increase affecting more than 15 million households across the UK with another hike predicted to be announced by Ofgem, the energy regulator, next year.
To help with these mounting costs, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is reminding people that they could be eligible for £140 off their electricity bill for winter 2021 to 2022 under the Warm Home Discount Scheme, which opens on October 18, 2021 - although some suppliers are processing applications now.
The money is not paid directly to you - it’s a one-off discount on your electricity bill, between October and March 2022. You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides
